TRUE Leadership Newsletter - Issue 1
By Tom McCarthy
October 24th, 2007
In 1987, at the age of 26, I was put into my first leadership position when I was selected to be the National Sales Manager for Robbins Research, Inc. Although the business was growing quickly, it didn’t take me long to realize realized that I did not know how to lead. I was a great salesperson and a nice guy, but leadership required more than that. The ups and downs of leading an organization were getting to me and I was having a terrible time handling the stress.
It was out of my personal frustration that my quest to learn how to become an outstanding leader was born. Since that time I have read hundreds of books and articles on leadership and met and studied great leaders in business, government, education, non-profits and the military all over the world. The culmination of this research is my TRUE Leader System of Leadership.
Each month I will be taking a concept from the TRUE Leader System and discussing it in this newsletter. The uniqueness of the TRUE Leader System is in the way that sound leadership concepts are “chunked” together to provide you with a blueprint to improve any organization you lead. The ladder below shows the elements of TRUE Leadership “chunked” together.
TRUE Leaders do the following:
- Take Their Team to a “Best in the World” Vision
- Rigorously Construct a Rock-Solid Foundation
- Use the Organizations Values to Create Strength and Clarity
- Execute the 8 Steps of Leadership
I hope that you will find the TRUE Leader Newsletter valuable and together I look forward to helping you improve your organization. As you receive the TRUE Leader Newsletter if you have any breakthroughs as a leader or if you have any outstanding leadership stories, please let me know about them.
My goal is that together we can all be leaders who make the world a better place!
Make it an outstanding day,
Tom McCarthy
